Teaching tip: 'Network Now Starter' - Language and culture (Unit 2, page 43)

Learning a language is not just about grammar and vocabulary, but also about the traditions of the people who speak a language. This is why 'Network Now Starter' has six useful and interesting 'Language and culture' pages, one after each Unit. Read our tips on how to integrate them into your lessons. You'll see that we’ve integrated this month's topic of 'personalisation' into the tips too.

Network Now StarterYou’ll have already received your sample copy of a Unit of Network Now Starter – Unit 2 – in the post, including the Language and culture page, the Magazine pages and the Now me page. You can also find this sample material online on our Network Now site. Just click here:

… and have a look. You’ll find Language and culture on page 43 in the Network Now Starter book.

The Language and culture page comes after each Unit of Network Now Starter, with texts in German on interesting aspects of the English language and life in English-speaking countries. Each text is followed by a short task.

This page can either be done by the learners at home or, if you have time, it’s worth integrating some or all of it into your lessons. To find the best place to do each of the activities, just look at the page which is written after each heading on the Language and culture page. This refers back to the page in the Unit where you’ll then find the exact place to do the activity.

You will find an Out and about task on each of the Language and culture pages. The idea behind this task is for students to apply what they’ve learnt in their classroom to the real world. These tasks are also very easy to integrate into your lessons.

Now have fun using our tips on how to integrate the Language and culture page from Networ Now Starter Unit 2 into your lessons, without disturbing your lesson plan or timing. Just click on:

sehr abwechslungsreich, sehr realitätsbezogen, Anfangs Lektion Auflistung der Lernziele super, aber auch teilweise im lay-out etwas chaotisch, Grammatik wird nirgends wie ein roter Faden gezeigt
